Improving our schools

In the 2017/18 State Budget the State Labor Government announced a program to build new science and technology labs in schools.

In our community $10 million was provided to the below schools to improve education in vital science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects.

  • Le Fevre High School - $2.5m
  • Seaton High School - $2.5m
  • Largs Bay Primary School - $1m
  • Lefevre Primary School - $1m
  • West Lakes Primary School - $1m
  • Westport Primary School - $1m
  • Grange Primary School - $1m

Schools should focus their resources on delivering exceptional education- rather than paying bills. Delivering our Gonski funding agreement the State Government will now fully fund utility costs for public schools and pre-schools. Locally, this means our schools would be better off by around $93,000 a year.

The Government has also invested $15 million to provide schools with solar, LED lighting and water efficiency measures to reduce bills and reduce our schools impact on the environment.

Rite Bite Campaign

In the 2017/18 State Budget, it was announced South Australian primary school students will be provided with fresh fruit and vegetables under a new pilot program that will educate children about healthy eating and broaden the range of fresh foods they are eating. I'm pleased to announce that one of our local schools, Seaton Park Primary has been selected to participate in the program which will start in term 4.

This new pilot program is about encouraging students to select and try new fruits and vegetable options, importantly the program will give parents a helping hand and all the produce will be provided by local businesses.

This is just some of the many ways the State Government is investing in education in our community.

Creating active kids

Every child should have the opportunity to participate in organised sports, but we know this can be expensive.

That's why we're providing a sports voucher of $50 for each primary school student in SA.

Since its induction, 2,136 vouchers have been redeemed in Lee and more than 100,000 across the state worth more than $5.2 million.
